And he could have just been trying to keep it a secret, because he does not want word getting out that the College of Winterhold allows necromancy. Just because he may be lying about being a necromancer, and helps you catch a villain does not mean he is not a necromancer. I think it'd be cool if he was secretly an immortal lich, and just using illusion magic like Vastarie or Mannimarco to maintain a "mortal appearance." Not all liches are evil. Either it is because he is really freaking old, or he is a necromancer. Wuunferth has earned the title "Unliving" for a reason. Nords get "Titles" in their names depending on what they do. Hoag Mer-Killer, killed a lot of Snow Elves and Dwemer. Else God-Hater, means she hates the divines. "Bear-Slayer" means the guy kills a lot of bears. He's also called "The Unliving." Keep in mind, Nord names include titles. He's got skulls in his workshop/office around his enchanting table, and body parts. Just because he helped you find the murderer, (who was also a necromancer, and member of the College) does not mean he is not a necromancer himself.
